INDIANAPOLIS – Hillsdale junior forward Brittany Gray (Birmingham, MI / Marian HS) was announced as the new Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week on Monday.
The Chargers battled right back into the thick of the conference standings with a perfect week with double-digit victories over Malone and Walsh. Under first-year head coach Matt Fritsche, Hillsdale improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the Great Midwest.
Four teams remain unbeaten at the top of the league standings including No. 24 Cedarville as the Yellow Jackets broke through in the WBCA Top-25 rankings this past week. Findlay, enjoying a current seven-game win streak, is 4-0 while Ohio Dominican and Ursuline are tied at 3-0.
Gray has established herself among the league’s best in several categories in her first year with the league. She averaged 24 points, seven rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, in both Hillsdale victories.
Gray also made eight three-point baskets and shot north of 63 percent from the field.
Versus Malone, she was nearly perfect shooting with an 8-of-12 performance. Gray scored 21 points in just 23 minutes while blocking three shots and collecting a pair of steals. She made four three-point baskets.
Gray’s performance against Walsh was equally as impressive with a double-double that included season-high totals in points (27) and rebounds (12). She made 11-of-18 shot attempts and had two blocks and two assists in 37 minutes on the floor.
In eight games, Gray is averaging 16 points 6.8 rebounds and is shooting almost 43 percent from the field.
She ranks seventh in the conference in scoring, 13th in rebounding, 14th in field goal percentage and is tied for seventh in blocks.
