INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time this season, Findlay senior forward Taren Sullivan (Lima, OH / Bath HS) was tabbed the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week by the league on Monday.
Sullivan and the Oilers improved to 9-2 overall while remaining undefeated in the league standings at 4-0. UF has now won five straight and is the only conference unbeaten along with Lake Erie.
Sullivan was also selected the Great Midwest Athlete of the Week back on Nov. 6 in the first week of 2017-18.
The Oilers were tested in Croy Gymnasium and emerged as winners against Walsh and Malone. Findlay handed the Cavaliers their first loss of the conference schedule and held off the Pioneers in a close four-point decision down the stretch.
Findlay is still receiving votes (23) in the NABC Top-25 Coaches Poll. Only California Baptist (30) has more votes before the top 25 are ranked.
Sullivan averaged 24.5 points, nine rebounds and four assists, in both wins. He also made 6-of-9 attempts from long range and shot a crisp 67.9 percent (19-of-28) from the field.
Sullivan poured in a season-high 31 points against Walsh on Thursday and made 13 of his 19 shots. He made three triples and pulled in seven rebounds while adding two blocks.
The 6-6 senior contributed a double-double against Malone with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He dished out six assists, tying his season high for the third time this year. Sullivan only missed three of the nine attempts from the field he tried.
In 11 games played and started, Sullivan is averaging 18.9 points per game while shooting almost 54 percent from the floor. He is averaging 7.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists with one steal per contest.
He currently ranks fourth in the league in scoring, fifth in rebounding and third in field goal percentage. His .833 clip from the free throw line is tied for fourth in the Great Midwest.
