Rubio Named All-American, Record Numbers for Men’s Soccer Regional Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – The D2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the United Soccer Coaches released their NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer All-Midwest Region Teams and feature members of six different Great Midwest Athletic Conference teams.
 
Ohio Valley led the way with five student-athletes being named to the D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team. They also had four players named to the United Soccer Coaches First Team and one to the second team.
 
Carlos Rubio was named to the first team by both organizations and garnered coveted United Soccer Coaches Second-Team All-American status, the second player in league history to earn All-American honors (Connor Gilmour, 2015).
 
The senior goalkeeper from Valencia, Spain also won the Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year as he became the conference career record holder in wins and shutouts.
 
Joining him on both first teams from Ohio Valley were redshirt sophomore midfielder Nicolas Rodriguez and Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Year junior forward Celso Riveros, both of whom were named to the Great Midwest All-Conference First Team. Sophomore forward Guillermo Segovia received first-team honors by D2CCA as well as second-team status from United Soccer Coaches.
 
Sophomore defender Miguel Campos also made the first team from United Soccer Coaches and junior Ignacio Diaz made the D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team to round out the representation from Ohio Valley.
 
Fellow NCAA Championship Midwest Region qualifier Davis & Elkins also had representation from both organizations.
 
Senior Pablo Salvador Lopez made the First Team from both United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA while sophomore Tim Staerz and Great Midwest Freshman of the Year Rafa Moreno also found themselves on the second team from both organizations.
 
Rounding out representation from the Senators was junior Friedrich Peter. He was named to the D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team as well as the United Soccer Coaches regional third team.
 
Findlay had two student-athletes represented by D2CCA Team recognition in its first year with the Great Midwest. Midfielder Josh Burton was named to the First Team and Josh Dickinson earned the vote for second-team honors.
 
Alderson Broaddus sophomore Ellis Roberts was named to the United Soccer Coaches Second Team. Joining him also on the second team was Cedarville senior John Schwien.
 
The final member of the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Team from the Great Midwest was Ohio Dominican junior Ryan Kasprzak, who was named to the third team unit.
