Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week (Nov. 27)

11.27.17

INDIANAPOLIS – Davis & Elkins junior guard Edmund Parker (Dayton, OH / Ponitz CTC) was tabbed the new Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Parker had a monster performance in the Senators’ 95-86 victory over Clarion on Tuesday, putting up 43 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

It helped lift D&E to its first win of the season and Parker produced the third-highest scoring output in conference history since the 2012-13 season.

Parker matched Masceo Harmon (Central State), who erupted for 43 points back in 2015 against Cedarville. The all-time record is held by Kentucky Wesleyan’s Lonnie Hayes, who scored 57 points against Lake Erie in 2013.

Parker eclipsed his previous career-high scoring total of 27 points recorded against Bluefield State as a freshman on January 5, 2016. In the game prior as a rookie, he had 25 points against West Virginia Tech.

Coming into the Clarion contest just two games into the 2017-18 year, Parker was averaging 10.5 points per game.

He made 13-of-20 shots against Clarion, which was good for 65 percent from the field. He was also firing on all cylinders from behind the three-point line, as he made 7-of-11 shots from deep.

He also made every shot count from the free throw line, making 10-10 from the charity stripe against the Golden Eagles. Parker was an 85 percent shooter at the line a year ago.

Parker is the early league leader in points per game at 21.3 while shooting .600 from the field (21-of-35) on all shot attempts. He remains perfect on free throws at 14-for-14.
