Great Midwest Student-Athletes Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

INDIANAPOLIS – In the sports of men’s and women’s soccer and football, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference had representation on the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Teams.
 
The Great Midwest had four student-athletes in District 4 of both men’s and women’s soccer teams while Super Region 1 in football had two selected.
 
District 4 features institutions from the Great Midwest, Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) out of the Midwest Region. Super Region 1 consists of schools from the Great Midwest, Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference (PSAC), Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) and Mountain East Conference (MEC).
 
All student-athletes selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams advanced in the next stage of balloting for Academic All-American consideration.

A breakdown of each student-athlete's credentials are below.

Rubio was a key ingredient for the Fighting Scots’ Sweet 16 run in the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional…Departs as the league’s all-time leader in wins and shutouts while also capping off his final season being named Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year…OVU was the Great Midwest regular-season champion and conference tournament champion while the program was taken to new heights as the No. 6 team in the country and top seed in the Midwest Reigon rankings…Had 17-1-4 (14 SHO)overall record in 2017 while playing over 2,000 minutes with a 0.43 GAA.
 
Peter was a vital part of the defense for NCAA-qualifying Davis & Elkins as the Senators made the Midwest Regional as an at-large selection…Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Week towards the end of the regular season…First Team Great Midwest All-Conference Team selection by the league’s coaches…Played and started in all possible 21 games…Had two goals and one assist.
 
Helping lead ODU to six consecutive wins to close the regular season, Kasprzak led the Panthers in points (20) and tied for the team lead in goals (8)…Started all possible 17 games…Converted three PK’s and had one game-winning goal…Fired off 59 shots…Junior forward is one of the league’s top returning playmakers and will bring career numbers of 24 goals, 9 assists and 57 points to the team next season.
 
Salvador Lopez is a two-time first team all-conference selection (2016, 2017) as he helped the Senators to the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional as an at-large selection…Tied for fifth in the Great Midwest with 25 points and was the league leader in assists with 13…Averaged 0.65 assists per game and also scored six goals.

Wierzbicki was a first team all-conference selection as the keeper position as the Panthers qualified for the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional…Helped ODU to a double-overtime upset win in the regional against McKendree…Logged almost 1,700 minutes in net to go with a 16-5-2 overall record…Made 76 saves and started all possible 23 games in a memorable year for the ODU program…Has a near-perfect GPA while majoring in Biology (pre-med) at Ohio Dominican.
 
Whicker started in all 19 possible games for the Yellow Jackets as Cedarville finished with a 10-6-2 overall record…Helped Cedarville win string together seven straight wins during the regular season from Sept. 30 to Oct. 21…Took only four shots on the entire season as key member of the Cedarville defense.
 
Bates was a first team all-conference selection as one of the league’s elite as a goal-scoring threat…Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Week…Led ODU with 33 points and 15 goals; also had three assists…Finished third overall in the conference in points scored (33) and was runner-up in goals scored…Enjoyed a streak where she scored at least one goal in seven consecutive games…Former 1,000-point career scorer on the women’s basketball team…Started all 22 games she appeared in.
 
Pavlik delivered the game-winning goal in double overtime against McKendree for the Panthers in the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional opening round…Second team all-conference selection as a playmaking forward…One of three ODU women’s soccer student-athletes on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, matching Grand Valley State for the most selections in District 4…Tied for fifth in the league in goals scored with 11...Finished seventh in points with 25 (11 G, 3 A)…Credited with six game-winning goals in her final season while starting 14 of her 17 games played in.

Contini was the Great Midwest Offensive Back of the Year (QB/WR/TE/RB) as decided by the league’s coaches…Finished season with a flurry that included seven receiving TD’s in just two games…Became the first player in league history to catch four touchdowns in a single game…Hauled in three touchdowns to help ODU secure the Great Midwest Championship trophy in Columbus against Findlay…Led the league with 1,186 yards on 72 receptions…Also paced the conference in receiving touchdowns with 14…Averaged a league-best 118.6 yards per game…First team all-conference selection at the wide receiver position…Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Lorenz was a first team all-conference selection as an anchor of the Ohio Dominican offensive line…Helped pass protect for a 3,000-yard passer in Grant Russell and a near 1,000-yard rusher with EJ Colson…Veteran leader who helped ODU to seven conference wins and the Great Midwest Championship trophy…One of just five offensive lineman to be placed on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
