INDIANAPOLIS – Alderson Broaddus sophomore guard Brandon Willis (Columbia, MD / Hammond HS / Tarleton State) was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the week, the league’s third selection this season.
Willis and the Battlers improved to 3-1 in the year after carving out wins against strong programs from Glenville State and Bowie State.
There is plenty of reason to be excited in Philippi with the emergence of Willis, continued development of 2017 Great Midwest Freshman of the Year Malik Bocook and rim-rocking jams from Mike Davis, one that went viral on social media platforms.
Willis was equally impressive in both Battlers’ wins, pouring in 27 points during each game. He shot over 62 percent from the field combined (18-of-29) and made just under 53 percent of his attempts from long range (9-of-17).
Willis converted nine field goals in both games, his first effort of the week against Glenville State on the road. He drained four three-pointers and made five three throws while grabbing three rebounds and collecting a steal.
At home against Bowie State, Willis was 9-of-13 from the field with five more treys. He dished out four assists and had two steals.
In four games Willis now sports season averages of 22 points per game while shooting almost 53 percent from the field. He has made 16 of his 36 shots from beyond the arc and also averages over a steal per game.
