INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville junior guard Regina Hochstetler (Berlin, OH / Hiland HS) was tabbed the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the 2017-18 season on Monday.

The Yellow Jackets hosted a round of contests as part of the G-MAC/GLVC/GLIAC Challenge this weekend in the Callan Athletic Center.

Cedarville toppled Wisconsin-Parkside (GLVC) before putting No. 1 Ashland (GLIAC) on notice with a one-point loss that came down to the final buzzer.

The Yellow Jackets (1-1) had already made noise in the preseason by beating Penn State, one of two teams from the Great Midwest to take down NCAA Division I programs (Walsh also beat Ohio).

Hochstetler, who finished fifth in the league in scoring last year, and led the conference in free throw percentage, picked up right where she left off.

Against Wisconsin-Parkside, Hochstetler poured in a game-high 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting while making five three-point baskets. She also pulled down six rebounds and dished out three assists in Cedarville’s win.

She was deadly from long range against nationally-ranked No. 1 and defending NCAA DII champion Ashland. Hochstetler converted 6-of-11 tries from beyond the arc as part of a 22-point effort in 39 minutes on the floor.

In two games, Hochstetler averaged 24.5 points per game, shot almost 49 percent from the field (17-35), was even better from three-point range (11-21) and averaged six rebounds.
