INDIANAPOLIS — NCAA Division II announced 28 men’s and women’s basketball games that will be streamed live during the 2017-18 season on ESPN3.
The basketball showcase unveiled today will initially feature 14 doubleheaders starting with Chico State and Humboldt State on Saturday, Nov. 18. An additional four flex doubleheaders (eight games total) will be finalized later, and the games are expected to highlight premier and pivotal matchups toward the end of the season.
The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has two institutions, Kentucky Wesleyan and Findlay, that will be featured as part of the national showcase on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 1 (men) and 3 (women) p.m. ET from Croy Gymnasium.
The Panthers and Oilers are projected to be conference championship contenders in the 2017-18 campaign in both the men's and women's programs.
The KWC and UF men's programs were both NCAA Division II Championship qualifiers in 2016-17 as No. 4 and No. 6 seeds, respectively, in the 64-team field. The Oilers advanced to the Sweet 16 after taking down Southern Indiana and Ferris State in the Midwest Region bracket.
KWC was the 2016-17 G-MAC regular season and tournament champion with a 28-3 overall record. Findlay closed out last season with a 25-7 overall record in its final season in the GLIAC.
The women's program from Kentucky Wesleyan advanced into the G-MAC Championship semfinals last season with a strong 19-8 record. The Oilers' women posted a record of 13-15 in their final season of the GLIAC.
“Division II’s continued collaboration with ESPN provides an exciting opportunity to share the accomplishments of our student-athletes with a broad national audience,” said Terri Steeb Gronau, vice president of Division II. “We are thrilled to continue to promote the efforts of men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes on the court, in the classroom and in their communities.”
The currently scheduled games will feature 14 of the 24 basketball-sponsoring conferences in Division II and are selected from a pool of conference nominations. One conference has signed a separate broadcast agreement and will not be included this season.
