Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (Oct. 3)

10.3.17

INDIANAPOLIS – An undefeated start to the season for Walsh translated into a sweep of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors announced Tuesday morning.

The Cavaliers are 9-0-0 – bearing down on first-place Ohio Valley which has one more point in the conference standings. Walsh has 18 points after toppling Lake Erie and blanking Ursuline on the road.

Walsh and OVU will meet on October 12 in North Canton with first place potentially at stake. Ohio Dominican might have something to say about that since the Panthers are tied with Walsh for second in the league standings at 6-1-0.

ODU also collected road wins on a West Virginia swing, taking down Alderson Broaddus and beating Davis & Elkins.

Ohio Valley’s undefeated overall and conference stretch was extended with a pair of 2-1 wins against Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan at home. The Fighting Scots are now 8-0-2 after drawing against Mercyhurst and TNU back in September.

Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Week
Olivia Peters
Walsh
Forward
Sophomore
Glenview, IL (Glenbrook South HS)

It was just a matter of time before Peters, the reigning GLIAC Freshman of the Year, would collect her first offensive weekly award in a new conference.

Peters and teammate (Week 4 Offensive Player of the Week) Brianna Sanborn have been a deadly 1-2 combo for opponents to scheme against as the Cavaliers remain unbeaten midway through the 2017 season.

Peters recorded both game-winning goals in the pair of conference road victories. She finished the week with three goals and an assist.

Peters scored both Walsh goals in the 2-1 final against Lake Erie. She split a 1-1 tie in the 66th minute against the Storm with her sixth goal of the season in unassisted fashion. Peters also scored early in the first half.

In similar fashion, Peters was able to find the net early in regulation against Ursuline, recording her seventh goal of the year in the 20th minute. The Cavaliers would win 3-0.

Peters now has seven goals and eight assists on the year for a total of 22 points. She is second in the league in points only behind Ohio Valley’s Konstantina Giannou with 26. Peters also has four game-winners, also second in the league.

Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Week
Mickey McClanahan
Walsh
Goalkeeper
Sophomore
Franklin, OH (Bishop Fenwick HS)

McClanahan is now a two-time winner of defensive weekly conference honors after coming up with another shutout and improving her overall record in net to 9-0.

The sophomore made 11 total saves to preserve a perfect season for the Cavaliers in another 2-0 week.

Versus Lake Erie, she made three stops and came up clutch with eight more saves in a clean sheet effort to blank the Arrows of Ursuline.

McClanahan has started all nine games this year for Walsh and logged over 738 minutes.

She is the current league leader in goals against average (0.37) and save percentage (.897).
