INDIANAPOLIS – Alderson Broaddus and Ohio Dominican were both tabbed for Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week status as the regular season comes down to a close.
All eight seeds for the postseason are known, but seeding remains in flux as teams jockey for position in the bracket.
Three of the four quarterfinal host round sites are also known with first-round games to be played at Ohio Valley, Findlay and Davis & Elkins.
They will be joined in the playoffs by Cedarville, Trevecca, Alderson Broaddus, Walsh and Ohio Dominican.
Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Week
Shavon John-Brown
Alderson Broaddus
Forward
Senior
Brooklyn, NY (Mac Donald HS)
John-Brown was recapturing some of his Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Year form at the expense of Walsh and Malone over the past week.
For the Battlers, it couldn’t have come at a better time with the playoffs looming and AB in the mix to host one of four quarterfinal contests on Saturday. AB is looking to defend its 2016 conference tournament title this season.
John-Brown scored a total of nine points in just two games this week, including four goals (both game winners) and an assist.
John-Brown recorded a hat trick against Malone as the Battlers exploded for seven goals in a shutout win. He also converted a penalty kick for a score and assisted another AB score midway through the second half.
The senior then delivered in double overtime against Walsh in the 104th minute to give the Battlers their eighth win of the year and snap a 2-2 stalemate.
John-Brown now has a team-leading 16 points on the year with six goals and four assists.
Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Week
Matt Pardi
Ohio Dominican
Defender
Sophomore
Worthington, OH (Bishop Watterson HS)
Pardi was a key component as streaking Ohio Dominican won its fourth and fifth straight contests in shutout fashion.
The Panthers (7-8-0, 6-7-0 G-MAC) have secured their place in the playoff bracket and figure to be an extremely dangerous first-round draw in the postseason.
Pardi played all possible 180 minutes in starts against Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca as the Panthers permitted just a total of seven shots on goal combined.
