INDIANAPOLIS – With the first-ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving event in the books, the league announced its first set of men’s and women’s athletes of the week on Wednesday.
Davis & Elkins reaped the rewards of a strong showing at the West Virginia State Games in Morgantown over the weekend to begin the 2017-18 season.
Men’s Athlete of the Week

Sanchez led the way for the Senators, scoring 40 points in individual events at the West Virginia State Games over the weekend. Sanchez also contributed to 140 points in relay events, leading Davis & Elkins to a third-place finish overall.
Sanchez earned points in all four of his individual races, finishing in the top 10 in every event, and was the top Division II swimmer in three of his four events, only finishing behind teammate Pedro Gaspar in the 400 IM.
The sophomore had a pair of seventh place finishes in the 200-Breaststroke (2:14.82) and the 400-Individual Medley (4:21.64). He also swam to a ninth-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke (1:01.82) and a tenth in the 200 Individual Medley (2:01.59)

Vitoria Issaho dos Santos led the way for D&E at the West Virginia State Games, contributing to 117 points for the Senators. The senior scored in two individual events in a heavily stacked meet that featured multiple Division I programs.
Santos was the top Division II swimmer in two of her events, finishing with a 1:03.55 in the 100-Backstoke for 13th overall and finishing with a 2:21.35 in the 200 Backstroke for 17th.
Santos was the top Senator in the 500-Freestyle race with a 5:31.79 and finished just behind teammate Jaime Boulier in the 1650-Freestyle event with a 19:09.86 for 14th.
