INDIANAPOLIS - Ursuline freshman Nicole Yeargin and Kentucky Wesleyan junior Crystal Hopkins were named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Yeargin, who has now been the recipient of the weekly honor twice this season, competed at the SPIRE Midwest Open in Geneva, Ohio, where the Arrows made a big splash with several conference records shattered.

Ursuline broke through in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Poll ranked at No. 9 and after breaking G-MAC long jump, 55-meter dash, 200 and 400-meter yard dash records, the Arrows continue to make serious noise.

Yeargin set new conference records in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes. She ran a 24.53 in the 200 finals, breaking former Ursuline standout Keyana Roberts’ previous record of 25.29 set in 2014.

She finished second overall in the 400 with a time of 55.80, edging Cedarville national indoor/outdoor 800-meter champ Carsyn Koch’s 2016 record (56.15).

Hopkins combines to form a strong throwing tandem with teammate Cornelia Thomas as both made their mark felt in shot put and the weight throw.

Hopkins competed in the Rose-Hulman Invitational in Terre Haute this past Saturday and placed first in the shot put with a 13.45m throw, tied for best in the league this season with Thomas.

Hopkins also placed first in the weight throw, with a 16.76m attempt, which also put her right back in the conference record books in first. She broke the previous record held by Thomas that was set just in December.
