G-MAC Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week (Jan. 3)

1.3.17

INDIANAPOLIS – Malone junior forward Mitchell Spotleson was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week to start the new calendar year on Tuesday.

Spotleson and the Pioneers collected a non-conference win against Wright State Lake over the holiday break and make their G-MAC debut at Alderson Broaddus this evening.

Spotleson did his part as the Pioneers put up 114 points against their opponent and made a dent in the conference record books along the way.

He scored 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including a near-perfect 7-of-8 effort from long range, to go with five rebounds.

Malone tied a team record for the most three-point field goals made in a game with 20 and the 114 points is tied for the fourth most by a G-MAC school. Spotleson made seven threes, which is tied for fourth and was completed for the eighth time in league history.

The Pioneers head into the conference schedule with a 4-6 record. Spotleson is averaging 13.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 49 percent from the field.

He is currently tied for second in the G-MAC with 26 made threes, one behind teammate Ty Jordan and Kevin Simpson (Davis & Elkins).
