INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville sophomore guard Baylee Bennett was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week on Monday.

This is Bennett’s first career weekly conference honor.

Bennett put up strong numbers on the offensive end as the Yellow Jackets more than held their own against the league’s top two teams, Ursuline and Malone. Cedarville salvaged a split against two programs that had yet to fall in conference play going into last week.

The Yellow Jackets (9-8, 3-3 G-MAC) handed Malone its first conference defeat and battled Ursuline to a two-point margin as Bennett came through with a career-high point total.

Bennett averaged 24.5 points per game and shot a scorching 63 percent from the field while converting 11 of her 19 attempts from long distance combined.

Bennett scored 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting to help bring down the Pioneers on Thursday. She made four three-point field goals and recorded a pair of steals in a 12-point win, 73-61, and end Malone’s eight-game win streak.

The Callan Athletic Center was home for an impressive showing for the Cedarville women as they went head-to-head against league-leading Ursuline and threw a scare into the Arrows late.

Bennett erupted for the career-high 29 on 10-of-16 shooting that included seven triples, three rebounds and a pair of assists. She played 39 minutes and made both free throw attempts.

While averaging 13.5 points overall, Bennett has ramped up her production in the conference play to the tune of 19.4 ppg and 54.5 percent shooting from the field in five contests so far.
