INDIANAPOLIS - A pair of freshmen are taking home this week’s honors of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week as announced Tuesday.
Ursuline sprinter Tea Fletcher and Malone jumper Olga Branney respectively received the honors for the first time this season.
Fletcher, a freshman from Houston, Texas, competed on consecutive days this past weekend, starting in Findlay, Ohio, at the Northwest Ohio Invitational. While there, Fletcher completed a trio of 60-meter sprints where she finished in the top two in each of the races. Her best time of 7.83 seconds ranks third-best in conference history.
On Saturday, Fletcher and the Arrows traveled to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the Otterbein Home Meet. She ran a 7.96 and 7.98.
The second-place finish was good enough for Fletcher to land a spot in the finals and ran her last attempt in eight seconds flat.
Branney, a freshman from Green, Ohio, competed in the Northwest Ohio Invitational this past Friday in the high jump where she placed second overall with a jump of 1.63m.
Branney set a G-MAC record with her 1.63m jump, surpassing Carsyn Koch of Cedarville who recorded a mark of 1.62m back on January 30, 2015.
