INDIANAPOLIS – Ursuline redshirt junior forward Laney Lewis was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
This is Lewis’ third selection of the current season and fifth total conference weekly honor of her career.
Lewis and the Arrows were on the road this past week for conference matchups against Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene, both wins for Ursuline.
Ursuline and Malone are currently tied at the top of the G-MAC standings at 4-0.
On Thursday, Lewis led the Arrows to arguably their biggest win of the season, halting Kentucky Wesleyan’s 11-game win streak in a 75-48 victory. Lewis had 16 points to go with nine rebounds, seven assists, a pair of blocks and steals.
The Arrows won their sixth straight on Saturday by beating the Trojans in Nashville. Lewis had another huge game with 12 points, a conference single-game tying record 25 rebounds, six assists and seven blocks.
Lewis’ effort on the glass was the fourth most in Division II this year alone. She tied the G-MAC single-game record previously held by Kourtni Perry of Central State. This season, Lewis is averaging 15.5 points, 12.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
This week features Ursuline on the road again, this time at Ohio Valley at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Cedarville on Saturday with a tip at 2 p.m.
