G-MAC Football Players of the Week (Sept. 19)

9.19.16

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Three more selections were made as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week were announced on Monday following the third week of the season.

Malone had a repeat offensive weekly winner with defensive honors after hosting Notre Dame (OH) in a shootout while Kentucky Wesleyan made the trip up north to face Davenport in Michigan.

NOTE: for conference records purposes per the NCAA, non-countable opponents do not count towards statistics, win-loss records or player of the week consideration. It is up to the institution's discretion for its own record keeping.

G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week
#45 Matt Blasiole
Malone University
Running Back
Junior
Uniontown, OH

Blasiole plowed through the Notre Dame defense for a gaudy 8.9 yards per attempt and another touchdown in Malone's home effort on Saturday.

The powerful junior running back was picked the G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season following the Pioneers' season-opening win vs. Taylor.

Malone carved up nearly 600 yards of total offense against the Falcons and Blasiole accounted for nearly 200 of those with his rushing and receiving numbers.

He got the Pioneers off to a fast start against NDC, ripping off a 75-yard scoring run on the first play from scrimmage in the opening quarter. His scoring run is the longest in the G-MAC this fall.

Blasiole would finish the day with 161 yards on 18 carries with one 24-yard reception.

Blasiole leads the G-MAC with 397 rushing yards and an impressive 7.5 yards per carry average through three games this fall.

G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week
#13 JC Pawlyk
Malone University
Defensive Back
Senior
Canal Fulton, OH

Pawlyk was the ringleader for the Pioneers' defense as he led the team in tackles with 13 for his first G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition.

What separated Pawlyk from the pack was a pair of tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and half of a sack as Malone tried to contain a high-octane offense at home.

Pawlyk recorded seven solo tackles and six assisted stops to give him 24 on the season.

He currently ranks third in the G-MAC in tackles with 25 behind only teammates Williams (31) and Ryan Weber (27).

G-MAC Special Teams Player of the Week
#20 Colton Billups
Kentucky Wesleyan College
Defensive Back
Sophomore
Fayette, AL

Billups returned a blocked field goal 85 yards for a touchdown late in regulation against Davenport to thwart DU's shutout bid.

The Panthers combined to stop a 32-yard kicking attempt by Patrick Gregory as KWC's Tim Patterson was credited with the initial block.

Billups' return for a touchdown on special teams is the first for the G-MAC on either a blocked field goal or a blocked punt.
