9.12.16

GREENWOOD, Ind. - The second set of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week for the fall season were officially selected on Monday.

G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week
#2 Diego Thielen
Ohio Valley University
Midfielder
Sophomore
Barquisimeto, Venezuela

Despite being listed as a defender, Thielen was impactful on the offensive end of the field with two goals in two wins for the surging Ohio Valley program.

He scored against Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene as the Fighting Scots enjoyed a 2-0 start to the conference schedule.

Thielen is part of a youth movement in the program being developed by second-year head coach Luis Rincon. He was part of three Fighting Scots named to the G-MAC All-Freshman Team in 2015.

Thielen and his teammates have a big week ahead with former conference member Salem International, Davis & Elkins and Alderson Broaddus, looming ahead.

G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week
#1 Paulo Pinto
Cedarville University
Goalkeeper
Senior
Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil

Pinto and the Yellow Jackets salvaged a total of four points towards the conference standings, sitting in second place going into the third week of the season.

Early in the week, Pinto made two saves in a double-overtime draw against Trevecca Nazarene. On Saturday, after waiting out a lengthy weather delay and heading to Wright State University, Pinto pitched a shutout against Kentucky Wesleyan in a 1-0 blanking.

Career wise, Pinto racked up win No. 23 since starting his career in 2014. He currently ranks second all-time in career wins to former teammate Ethan Dewhurst (36).

Pinto is also second in career shutouts with 11.

The Yellow Jackets will get back into the conference schedule this week with a West Virginia road swing against Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins. The Cedarville/Alderson Broaddus contest in Philippi is a rematch of last year's G-MAC Championship final.
