NCAA Division II Softball Championship Bracket

INDIANAPOLIS
– Four-time Great Midwest Athletic Conference champion Trevecca Nazarene will be traveling to Indianapolis for the NCAA Division II Softball Midwest 1 Regional.

The annual selection show on Monday morning revealed the field of 64 and revealed the Trojans (43-15) as the No. 8 seed in the Midwest 1 Regional.

Also in TNU’s Midwest 1 Regional pod is top seed UIndy (50-3), No. 4 Grand Valley State (37-10) and No. 5 Southern Indiana (35-19).

The Midwest 2 Regional pod features No. 2 Missouri-St. Louis (52-7), No. 3 Wayne State (46-7), No. 6 Truman (30-18) and No. 7 Maryville (37-14). UMSL is the host institution.

TNU is set to face UIndy on Thursday, May 5, at 4:30 p.m. EST. The winner of that game would face the winner of Grand Valley State/Southern Indiana.

This is the second consecutive NCAA Midwest Regional appearance for Trevecca Nazarene and head coach Ben Tyree, whose squad is now an unblemished 15-0 in the conference tournament bracket since 2013.

The 2016 Trojans beat Salem International, Davis & Elkins and Cedarville twice, to hold up their fourth conference trophy. TNU outscored its opponents 31-1 and heads into the regional on a nine-game win streak and winners in 16 of its last 17 contests.

In 2015, the Trojans qualified as an at-large selection and advanced to the regional final. This spring, Trevecca Nazarene was ticketed for an automatic qualifier spot, the conference’s first in the sport of softball.

Twenty-four Division II conferences received automatic qualification into the 2016 championship bracket. TNU was still slotted in the top 10 of the NCAA Midwest Region rankings leading up to the NCAA Selection Show.

Four teams will participate at each of the 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments held May 5-7. Winners will advance to the super regionals slated for May 11-12.

The finals will be held May 17-21 at the Regency Athletic Complex Softball Field in Denver, Colo., and will be hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver and the Denver Sports Commission as part of the Division II National Championships Festival.
