4.5.16

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Cedarville sophomore middle distance runner Carsyn Koch was named the fourth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for 2016 on Monday.

Koch and the Lady Jackets split this weekend to participate in two different meets this past weekend.

Koch and three other members headed to the University of Texas to participate in the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays while the rest of the team competed at the Centre College Track and Field Invitational.

This is Koch's first time being named the G-MAC Athlete of the Week for the 2016 outdoor season. She previously won this title three consecutive weeks in a row during the indoor season where she crushed multiple conference/school records and was crowned the 800-meter national indoor champion with a new meet record.

Koch and the three others competed at the Texas Relays where they ran against several Division I teams including Clemson, Baylor and Kansas to name a few. There were also unattached competitors from various levels ultimately making an elite field.

Koch ran in the 1,500-meter run where she finished nintth overall with a time of 4:29.11. This time nailed her a provisional qualifier spot for the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships as well as No. 4 ranking all-time at Cedarville.

Koch continued to forge ahead alongside teammates Olivia Esbenshade, Sarah Hoffman and Carly Rose, as they broke the school record together in the 4x800-meter relay. They finished fifth out of 11 teams with a time of 8:59.84.

The Yellow Jackets look to this weekend as they compete in the All-Ohio Championship in Athens, Ohio, on April 8.
