CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Similar to the indoor season, the culmination of the outdoor campaign will be highlighted this weekend at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on the campus of Cedarville.
The two-day event will start Friday afternoon with field events beginning at 3:30 p.m. The competition will spill into Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m. EST followed by the awards presentation later in the afternoon.
Live results for the events can be followed
here.
The conference competitors are hoping the weather stays clear for the weekend, ultimately allowing a multitude of meet records to fall as the times/distances improve incrementally across the board.
Cedarville’s reign at the top of the league continued last spring with both men’s and women’s titles. The Yellow Jackets won both team trophies earlier this year to finish off the indoor season and have aspirations of repeating once more.
Reigning G-MAC Indoor Track Athletes of the Year Ben Moroney and Caroline Hampton, both from Trevecca Nazarene, will be highlighted once again in the distance events.
Hampton is already an NCAA Division II provisional qualifier in the 5K and Moroney recently competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational in the 10K to post the top time around the G-MAC for the current outdoor season.
Keep an eye on Kentucky Wesleyan freshman James Glenn. The Panthers’ speedster had a rough go at the indoor meet, including taking a nasty spill on the track that left him skinned up, but showed great sportsmanship by shaking hands and thanking each member from the conference staff.
Glenn has tore up the track this spring and owns the top times in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes, nearly cracking the provisional times in several events. He has won outdoor track and field athlete of the week conference honors twice this spring and is due for a breakthrough this weekend.
G-MAC indoor freshman of the Year Marcus Anderson from Alderson Broaddus and Dallan Goldring (KWC) will be entertaining to watch in the field events. Javelin also adds a new wrinkle to the mix and
Cedarville sophomore extraordinaire and national indoor champion Carsyn Koch will not be competing in this weekend’s meet. She has the nation’s top time in the 800-meter run by almost a full five seconds and has competed at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Highlighting the throwing events will be Kentucky Wesleyan’s combo of Crystal Hopkins and Cornelia Thomas. On the men’s side, freshman Jonathan Scouten of Cedarville is looking to continue his strong rookie season.
Cedarville’s Daniel Michalski has been a provisional qualifier twice in the 3K steeplechase, one of the events not conducted for the indoor meet.
Many of the G-MAC indoor champions and their talents will be on display this weekend.
