G-MAC Softball Championship Bracket (PDF)
GREENWOOD, Ind. - Six teams will travel to Xenia, Ohio, for the site of the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Championships starting on Thursday at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex.
Teams around the league will still try to interrupt a three-year running reign by Trevecca Nazarene, which enters this year’s tournament as the No. 1 seed and regular-season champion once again.
The conclusion of the regular season saw Ursuline and Salem International officially clinch postseason bids on Sunday as they finished with higher winning percentages over Ohio Valley and Alderson Broaddus.
The team banquet on Wednesday evening will set the stage for the tournament, which includes a coveted prize of automatic qualifier -- the G-MAC’s first AQ in the sport of softball -- to the NCAA Division II Championship Midwest Regional.
Trevecca Nazarene qualified last year as an at-large selection and made a splash by advancing to the regional final.
Thursday’s all-day first-round action starts out with all six teams playing in the opening round. The double elimination format will eventually trim the field down to one champion crowned on Saturday.
The Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene will start out by playing No. 6 seed Salem International at 10:30 a.m. EST on Field 1 on Thursday.
The other game starting at 10:30 a.m. will match No. 2 Kentucky Wesleyan again No. 5 Ursuline on Field 2.
No. 3 Davis & Elkins will face No. 4 Cedarville on Field 2 with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch scheduled.
Additional games on Thursday are slated for 1:00 p.m. (Field 1), 3:30 p.m. (Field 2) and 6 p.m. (Field 1). The full scenarios of possible opponents in those games are outlined in the tournament bracket.
