GREENWOOD, Ind. – Kentucky Wesleyan sophomore thrower Cornelia Thomas was named the second Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for 2016 on Monday.
Thomas and the Panthers debuted the new outdoor campaign as they combined to set several new school records at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta.
The KWC men’s and women’s teams teamed up to break a total 13 school records.
Thomas shattered the pre-existing conference record in the hammer throw with an attempt of 41.27 meters.
She edged out her own throwing teammate Crystal Hopkins, who launched 40.58 meters in 2015.
Thomas also competed in the discus (35.49m) and shot put (11.41m) and will carry those marks to the next event as conference-best distances so far in the young outdoor season.
