GREENWOOD, Ind. – Six teams will compete for the 2015-16 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship when the postseason officially gets underway next week March 3-5 in Owensboro, Ky.
The bracket was finalized on Saturday at the conclusion of the regular season around the league. At stake, for the first time this year in the Sportscenter, is an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional.
Kentucky Wesleyan (25-3, 11-1 G-MAC) earned the top seed, regular-season title and hosting responsibilities for this year’s tournament.
KWC is currently ranked 10th nationally and factored into the second release of the NCAA Midwest Region rankings at No. 9.
The Panthers received the top overall seed and will receive a first-round bye along with defending G-MAC champion Alderson Broaddus (17-9, 8-4 G-MAC).
Both Kentucky Wesleyan and Alderson Broaddus are ticketed for semifinal games against opponents to be determined on Friday, March 4.
Both quarterfinal matchups are intriguing based on the fact that all four teams played against their G-MAC Championship scheduled quarterfinal matchup to finish the regular season.
The first quarterfinal battle on Thursday, March 3, will feature No. 3 Trevecca Nazarene (14-14, 8-4 G-MAC) vs. No. 6 Ohio Valley (8-18, 4-8 G-MAC), tipping at 11 a.m. CST.
No. 4 Davis & Elkins (11-16, 5-7 G-MAC) and No. 5 Cedarville (14-14, 5-7 G-MAC) will tip things off later that afternoon at 1:30 p.m. CST.
Alderson Broaddus will face the winner of TNU/OVU on Friday, March 4, at 11 a.m. CST while Kentucky Wesleyan gets the later game versus CED/D&E at 1:30 p.m. CST.
Saturday's championship game will tip off at 1 p.m. CST.
Kentucky Wesleyan has already announced ticket sales at kwcpanthers.com that will be available on Monday at the Winchester Center on campus. An all-session pass for $30 is available for reserved seating and $25 for general admission for all five games.
Single-day tickets will be $12 for reserved tickets, $10 for general admission, $2 for student (ages 7-17) and children six and under are free.
The G-MAC is working with the host institution to provide free video/audio and live stats coverage of all five tournament games. The video will be streamed through the conference’s Stretch Internet portal.
