FINAL WOMEN'S RESULTS
ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS
CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Cedarville was crowned the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor & Track Field Championship winners for the first time in the league’s two-year history of the event.
The second annual conference meet was held at Cedarville’s Doden Field House where the women displayed flair all afternoon by shattering various records in many events.
Two more student-athletes cashed in automatic qualifying times for the NCAA Division II Indoor National Track & Field Championship to be held in Pittsburg, Kan.
Ursuline’s freshman standout Janelle Perry (55-meter dash) and Cedarville’s Olivia Esbenshade (800-meter run) both qualified to join Carsyn Koch (800, mile) as national auto runners in the G-MAC.
In the five-team field, Cedarville compiled 183.50 points in the team scoring to outdistance itself from Ursuline (112), Kentucky Wesleyan (83), Trevecca Nazarene (58) and Alderson Broaddus (54.50)
G-MAC Coach of the Year honors went to Jeff Bolender again as Cedarville pulled off the men’s and women’s sweep inside its own venue.
Additional individual awards went to Caroline Hampton of Trevecca Nazarene (G-MAC Track Athlete of the Year) and Perry (G-MAC Freshman/Field Athlete of the Year).
Coaches determined the voting outcome for individual awards following the conclusion of the event.
Hampton reset her own meet record from 2015 with a 10:19.94 in the 3K. Already a two-time G-MAC Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2014 and 2015, Hampton’s legacy at an early stage in her career just continued to grow.
TNU distance runners swept track athlete of the year honors as Ben Moroney earned the same distinction on the men’s side.
Hampton would also finish runner-up by less than a second in the mile to Cedarville’s Hailey Bredeson.
Perry flashed through the 55-meter hurdle preliminaries at an already impressive 8.39 seconds, but managed to shave off 0.07 seconds for an 8.32 in the finals. She ran her auto-qualifying time of 7.42 seconds in the final of the 55-meter dash.
Perry was one of the most active student-athletes throughout the day, winning triple jump and long jump and placing second in the high jump.
Koch, a four-time G-MAC Athlete of the Year, won the 400 and 800. Esbenshade was with stride-for-stride and finished 0.34 seconds behind her teammate.
Kentucky Wesleyan sophomore provisional qualifier Crystal Hopkins swept the throws events with a 12.56m distance in the shot put and a 14.07m mark in the weight throw.
Alderson Broaddus’ distance standout Jenny Brewer finished off the 5K with a new meet record time of 18:33.68.
