GREENWOOD, Ind. – Davis & Elkins sophomore pitcher Alexandra Lapallo and Salem International senior catcher Katie Chryssofos were named as the fourth set of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Athletes of the Week on Monday.
The previous weekend marked the season openers for both respective squads as each were instrumental in helping their teams getting out to quick starts out of the gates.
Davis & Elkins (4-2) swept Shaw and split vs. Winston-Salem State and Fayetteville State while Salem International (4-1) put up some gaudy offensive numbers vs. Johnson C. Smith, Virginia Union and Virginia State.

Lapallo orchestrated two complete game shutouts, including a one-hitter, and compiled 22 strikeouts to match her innings pitched. She finished the weekend with a 2-1 record in the circle.
After being tabbed for conference weekly honors two times as a freshman, Lapallo reeled in her third career pitcher of the week selection after garnering first-team all-conference accolades in 2015.
Lapallo’s first start of the spring was a gem against Winston-Salem State after a one-out double was the only blemish in her no-hit bid against the Rams.
She retired 13 straight batters to begin D&E’s season opener and finished with seven strikeouts as her team provided eight runs of support.
Lapallo pitched Davis & Elkins past Shaw in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday, pitching six strong scoreless innings with seven more strikeouts.
