GREENWOOD, Ind. – Ursuline redshirt sophomore forward Laney Lewis was named the 13th Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for 2015-16 on Monday.
This is Lewis’ first G-MAC Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week selection. As a team, Camryn Hill, Brigan Wymer and now Lewis have represented the Arrows for weekly league honors this year.
Over the course of the past week, she averaged a double-double for both games with 18 points per game and 17.5 rebounds.
Her efforts helped lead Ursuline to a 2-0 week in the conference to take down Ohio Valley and Salem International.
She is the G-MAC’s current leader in rebounding (11.0 rpg) and ranks seventh in scoring (12.8 ppg).
Versus Ohio Valley, Lewis finished 7-of-13 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line for 19 points. She had a career-high 19 boards -- eight offensive and 11 defensive rebounds -- resulting in the double-double.
She also stole the ball three times, dished out two assists and had two blocks.
Lewis once again dominated the floor against SIU as she achieved another double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds in 29 minutes. She contributed five assists, a steal and a block.
Lewis has started all 22 games for the Arrows.
In the G-MAC, Lewis also leads the league in blocks (2.0 bpg), is sixth in assists (3.5 apg), and is top 12 in steals (1.4 spg).
The Arrows look forward to a big conference game this week at Cedarville where the regular-season title and hosting responsibilities for the conference tournament could be decided.
