G-MAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (Dec. 5)

12.5.16

INDIANAPOLIS – Kentucky Wesleyan junior Cornelia Thomas and Trevecca Nazarene sophomore Danielle March were named the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Thomas provisionally qualified for the NCAA DII Indoor Championships in her season debut with strong marks in both the shot put and weight throw.

She launched the shot 13.45 meters to finish second out of 18 total throwers. It was the second-best indoor mark recorded in conference history only behind her teammate Crystal Hopkins.

Thomas’ 16.55m mark in the weight throw set a brand new conference record by a wide margin. She eclipsed the previous record of 14.73m recorded also by Hopkins last season.

The Panthers were competing at the UIndy Season Opener to start the indoor campaign.

March, an all-conference selection at the G-MAC Cross Country Championships, moved into the indoor season with a strong debut at the Vanderbilt Invitational.

She finished sixth out of 17 in a field of all Division I runners and managed to run the program’s second-fastest mile in TNU history.

March clocked a 5:13.53 in a strong conference-wide event that has put up impressive times for the past four years.
