Cedarville’s Olson Lands on D2CCA, AVCA Midwest Region Teams

12.2.16

INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville junior middle blocker and 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year Gabby Olson reeled in additional postseason recognition from two organizations this week.

Olson was recognized as a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Midwest Region First Team and the D2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Second Team.

Olson is the first G-MAC volleyball student-athlete to be named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region First Team after Trevecca Nazarene’s Katelyn Atkinson was an honorable mention pick in 2015.

Only 14 student-athletes from around the Midwest Region (G-MAC, GLVC, GLIAC) were officially recognized to both teams this season.

Olson and the Yellow Jackets are preparing for the NCAA Championship Midwest Region semifinal matchup against Lewis later today at 5 p.m. EST from Ferris State University.

The Yellow Jackets, seeded seventh, in their first trip to the national tournament, beat No. 2 seed Findlay in five sets on Thursday.

Olson was a critical component to the Yellow Jackets winning their fourth G-MAC Championship in five years. She helped Cedarville lead the league in hitting percentage, kills and blocks.

She managed to finish second in the G-MAC in hitting percentage (.332) and blocks (1.09) while finishing fourth in kills (374) and points.
