INDIANAPOLIS – Trevecca Nazarene freshman guard Devin Whitfield was announced as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Whitfield and the Trojans (3-9 overall) carved out a signature win to the season following a home win against No. 9 Alabama-Huntsville on Monday. TNU also played Midwest Region opponent Saint Joseph’s (IN) later.
Whitfield’s fingerprints were all over both games. He was the high scorer against the Chargers of UAH with 21 points.
He poured in 22 against the Pumas while shooting over 56 percent from the field combined in both contests.
Whitfield cashed in four of his five tries from long range in TNU’s 64-63 win vs. UAH. He shot 6-of-11 from the field and also made 5-of-6 at the free throw line. He pulled in seven rebounds and had a steal in 38 minutes.
He played all possible 40 minutes against SJC with crisp 8-of-14 shooting and six more makes at the charity stripe. Whitfield handed out three assists and picked up another steal.
Whitfield leads Trevecca Nazarene in scoring as the Trojans get ready for the conference schedule. As the only Trojan to start and play in all possible 12 games, his impressive first-year averages are now at 15.2 ppg and 5.3 rpg.
