2016 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship Bracket
INDIANAPOLIS – Following the results of Monday’s selection show, Davis & Elkins College is ticketed as the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional bracket and will play this Friday, Nov. 11.
The G-MAC tournament champ Senators (10-9-0) will face No. 3 McKendree from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) with a 2 p.m. EST start time scheduled at the host site in Quincy, Ill.
The winner between Davis & Elkins would move on to the second round where No. 2 seed Truman waits for a Sunday contest slated at 1 p.m. EST.
Davis & Elkins was one of 22 automatic qualifiers across the country to be slotted in the 48-team tournament bracket. An additional 26 at-large selections were made by the national committee.
A total of six teams from each of the eight regions were selected to the tournament field.
Davis & Elkins is representing the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and making the league’s second-ever national tournament appearance in women’s soccer (Cedarville, 2015).
The Senators completed a magical run through the tournament bracket as the No. 4 seed, eliminating No. 5 Kentucky Wesleyan, No. 1 Trevecca Nazarene and No. 2 Ursuline.
Sophomore forward Katrina Giantsopoulos made it two straight years as a First Team All-G-MAC selection. She was also the league’s 2015 offensive and freshman of the year and finished second in the conference with 12 goals scored this fall.
The Bearcats of McKendree head into the tournament at 16-4-1, the most recent win in the GLVC Championship against Rockhurst in overtime. Sophomore forward Sydnee Carroll has scored 17 goals with four assists this year.
Other teams in the opposite side of the Midwest Region bracket include No. 1 Grand Valley State, No. 4 Rockhurst and No. 5 Missouri-St. Louis.
