INDIANAPOLIS - Alderson Broaddus collected the positional sweep as the final set of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week was awarded on Monday by the league.
The Battlers won both the first conference title and defended their hold on the G-MAC Founders Cup Game trophy with their win against Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday.
Alderson Broaddus finished the regular season at 9-2 overall (7-2 including NCAA non-countable opponents) and celebrated a large Senior Day with 37 playing in their final contest.
Even more appropriately, all three winners this week were repeat selections as conference players of the week while finishing out their careers in style at home.
The very first G-MAC football all-conference team, as voted by the coaches, will be announced next Monday, Nov. 21.
G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Brandon Jones
Alderson Broaddus University
Running Back
Senior
Williamsburg, VA
For the third time this year, Jones was designated with offensive honors following his effort against Kentucky Wesleyan. This time, Jones ran for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the ground game was instrumental in helping AB come back from a 14-point halftime deficit.
He also led the Battlers in receiving with 58 yards.
Jones finished the year just one yard shy of 1,200 and scored 12 rushing touchdowns, both league-leading numbers. He averaged over 133 yards of rushing per contest.
G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Michael James
Alderson Broaddus University
Safety
Senior
Woodbridge, VA
James filled up the stat sheet with seven tackles, a forced fumble and a pair of interceptions, to finish off his accomplished career in the regular-season finale.
No bigger play was more critical than his fourth-quarter interception that he returned 52 yards up the sideline to KWC's 13-yard line.
James' pick set up a game-winning field goal drilled by teammate Tyler Schiefelbein with just 1:15 left in regulation.
He finished the season with 57 tackles (7.1 per game) and a league-leading five interceptions. James was a two-time G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week this season.
G-MAC Special Teams Player of the Week
Tyler Schiefelbein
Alderson Broaddus University
Kicker
Senior
Philippi, WV
Schiefelbein is now a three-time G-MAC Special Teams Player of the Week after converting all four PAT attempts and a new career-long field goal.
His 42-yard kick with 1:15 left in the fourth quarter was good to split a 28-28 tie. The Battlers' defense stifled the final KWC drive to preserve the win.
Schiefelbein finished the year a perfect 24-of-24 on PAT attempts and was 9-for-14 on all field goal tries. He led all G-MAC kickers in scoring points with 51.
