INDIANAPOLIS - Cedarville senior outside hitter Abby Shelton was named the Sports Imports / AVCA Division II National Women's Volleyball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
It is the first time a Great Midwest Athletic Conference student-athlete has received the national honor since the league’s first season in 2012.
Additionally, Shelton was selected the NCCAA Division I National Player of the Week and the G-MAC Player of the Week (for the second time in her career.
A 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Sparta, Ga., Shelton guided the Lady Jackets to a 3-0 week and sole possession of first place in the conference.
In 10 sets played, she pounded 51 kills with just eight errors in 97 attempts for a .442 attack percentage.
Shelton added 31 digs, seven service aces, five blocks, and received 38 serves without an error.
She buried a season-high 24 kills in a four-set victory over Bellarmine. The reigning 2015 G-MAC co-Player of the Year ranks third in conference history in career kills.
Her 14 kills and 17 digs sparked a three-set sweep of defending G-MAC champion Trevecca and she tallied 13 kills in another sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan.
Cedarville is 19-7 overall. The Jackets resume play on Tuesday with a G-MAC contest at Ohio Valley beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
