INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville senior outside hitter Abby Shelton was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Shelton and the Yellow Jackets enjoyed a perfect 3-0 week that included three Midwest Region victories against Bellarmine and then Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan to continue the conference slate.
Cedarville figures to be a serious contender once again in the conference tournament, where they are winners three of the past four seasons.
Shelton put up some big numbers against all three opponents with 5.10 kills per set and a hitting percentage at .443 in just 10 sets played. She powered down 24 kills against Bellarmine and combined for 27 against TNU/KWC.
Shelton earned G-MAC Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career and is also the league’s co-player of the year a season ago. The Yellow Jackets moved into first place in their division after beating Trevecca Nazarene to even up the season series.
Cedarville improved to 19-7 overall and 6-1 in the G-MAC.
She still ranks third in career kills in the conference’s five-year history with 1,246. This is her second career conference weekly honor.
