G-MAC Football Players of the Week (Oct. 31)

10.31.16

INDIANAPOLIS – A trio of Kentucky Wesleyan student-athletes were selected as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week as announced on Monday.

Kentucky Wesleyan beat Alfred State over the weekend for the Panthers’ second win of the season as all three facets of the game clicked for head coach Brent Holsclaw and his staff.

Malone and Alderson Broaddus both played opponents on Saturday that were non-countable according to the NCAA. Their statistics cannot be recognized as official for conference record-keeping purposes.

G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Mike McGee
Kentucky Wesleyan College
Quarterback
Sophomore
Crestwood, KY

McGee threw for 277 yards and five touchdowns to light up the Alfred State secondary on Saturday.

After seeing scattered playing time with minimal attempts against UIndy, Northwestern State and nationally-ranked UNC Pembroke, McGee has started the last two contests against No. 11 Ashland and most recently, Alfred State.

McGee connected with four-time G-MAC Player of the Week Keelan Cole for a 70-yard score in the second quarter, his longest throw of the day.

McGee threw for two touchdowns in the second and third quarters and had two TD scoring strikes to both Cole and Travion Tucker. He averaged over 21 yards per completion to his receiving corps.

The Panthers racked up over 550 yards of total offense with McGee at the controls.

G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Travell Brown
Kentucky Wesleyan
Defensive Back
Junior
Los Angeles, CA

Brown was an all-around force for the swarming Panthers’ defense, recording four tackles, making two interceptions and also contributing with a blocked field goal.

KWC limited the Alfred State passing game to just 91 yards.

His first interception stopped Alfred State’s first drive of the game on a 3rd and 13 down. It led directly to the opening points on a Cole Woodburn field goal.

Brown’s fingerprints were on the next drive by the opponent as well as he blocked a 40-yard field goal try that was returned for 26 yards. His other pick was deep in KWC territory to stop a scoring drive; the Panthers also responded with points from a turnover with a touchdown from Mike McGee to Travion Tucker.

G-MAC Special Teams Player of the Week
Cole Woodburn
Kentucky Wesleyan
Kicker
Senior
Rockport, IN

Woodburn enjoyed a perfect kick day, converting all seven point after attempts and making a field goal from 33 yards out against Alfred State.

Woodburn accounted for 10 points, the most by a G-MAC kicker this season in a single game.
