INDIANAPOLIS – The postseason field was finalized for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship following another exciting finish to the league’s regular season on Tuesday.
Trevecca Nazarene finished off an incredible run through the regular season and will host the conference tournament semifinals and championship game in Nashville, Tenn.
The Trojans officially clinched the regular-season title when Malone defeated Ursuline Tuesday afternoon, but still emerged as an overtime winner in front of the home fans. TNU secured a first-round bye and the No. 1 seed.
Trevecca Nazarene is vying for the program’s second G-MAC Championship title after winning the inaugural offering in 2012. The Trojans also were the tournament runner-up in 2014.
The winner of the conference tournament receives an automatic qualifier bid for the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional. Cedarville was the G-MAC’s first national tournament-qualifying program in 2015 and enters this year’s playoffs as the defending champ.
Two quarterfinals will be played on Saturday, Oct. 29, as No. 4 Davis & Elkins (7-9-0, 7-7-0) and No. 3 Cedarville (7-9-1, 7-6-1 G-MAC) host first-round matchups on separate sides of the bracket.
The semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 3, and the championship final on Saturday, Nov. 5, will be streamed live with stats. Links will be provided at a later time.
Trevecca Nazarene will play the later semifinal at 7:30 p.m. CST (8:30 p.m. EST) while the earlier game will be played at 5 p.m. CST (6 p.m. EST). The championship game time has been officially finalized as 1 p.m. CST (2 p.m. EST)
Also receiving a first-round bye along with Trevecca Nazarene is second-seeded Ursuline (11-5-1, 9-4-1 G-MAC). The Arrows await the winner of the No. 3 seed Yellow Jackets and No. 6 Malone.
The sixth-seeded Pioneers qualified for the tournament on the final day of the regular season after beating Ursuline. Cedarville’s title defense begins at home, where the Yellow Jackets are 5-1 this year. Malone and Cedarville will play their quarterfinal matchup at 3 p.m. EST.
No. 4 D&E will face No. 5 Kentucky Wesleyan in a 2:30 p.m. EST Saturday contest. The Panthers enter as winners in four of their last five while the Senators are just one year removed from serving as the women’s soccer tournament host after going 12-2-0 in the league in 2015.
The 2016 G-MAC Women’s Soccer All-Conference Team will also be announced next week prior to the semifinal contests. A team banquet will be conducted on Wednesday evening with the four remaining programs left in the bracket.
