INDIANAPOLIS - After pulling into possession of first place, Davis & Elkins student-athletes Tim Staerz and Lukas Grosse-Puppendahl were named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week on Monday.

The Senators are bidding to host the upcoming G-MAC Championship. The top seed would secure home-field advantage for the six-team postseason tournament.

Staerz has been the conference offensive player of the week twice this season and has established himself as a contender in candidacy for G-MAC Freshman of the Year.

Staerz had a say in all three goals for the Senators in a 3-2 win over Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday. The freshman assisted each of the first two goals before banging home the eventual game winner for the third and final goal for D&E.

On Saturday, Staerz picked up his second straight game-winning goal with the second tally for the Senators in a 3-1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan. The two wins helped propel the Senators to the top of the G-MAC Standings at the end of the week. Staerz has four goals and four assists on the season.

Puppendahl helped deliver a pair of conference wins for Davis & Elkins with his work along the back to slow down Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan at home.

At 8-3-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the league with 22 total conference points, the Senators have been stingy all year on the opposition.

Grosse-Puppendahl has been a regular name on the all-conference teams, but like most defenders, his contributions can statistically be hard to quantify. With veteran line mates like Ross Stewart, Mads Kaiser and Fredrik Hedemark, the Senators have protected two-time G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week Hedi Mehnaoui for the entire year to date.
