Five Ready for Mizuno Midwest Region VB Crossover Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS
– The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) will have five institutions represented in the 36-team field for the 2016 Mizuno Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover Tournament this weekend in Aurora, Ill., beginning on Friday.
 
Alderson Broaddus, Cedarville, Davis & Elkins, Malone and Trevecca Nazarene, will each play three matches in the Great Lakes Center against opponents from either the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) or the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
 
The tournament gives all teams a chance to enhance their resume with Midwest Region competition. A 14-member all-tournament team will also be released at the end of the weekend.
 
This is the ninth annual event and this year will feature 16 GLVC schools, 15 GLIAC schools and 5 G-MAC schools. Last year, the G-MAC had four schools compete (Cedarville, Kentucky Wesleyan, Ohio Valley, Ursuline)

Admission for the event if $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and all children 13 and under are free.
 
The two-day event will feature 54 matches conducted on nine courts throughout six sessions at one of the top volleyball facilities in the country. The tournament has previously been held in Indianapolis and Lansing, Mich.
 
Alderson Broaddus, the 2015 Black division champ, will face Missouri S&T, Southern Indiana and Illinois-Springfield, all from the GLVC.
 
Cedarville, the 2015 Blue division champ and conference tournament runner-up, will square off against all GLIAC Michigan schools -- Michigan Tech, Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State.
 
Davis & Elkins, second in the Black division a year ago at 6-4, has officially drawn three GLVC opponents with Wisconsin-Parkside, Marvyille and Saint Joseph’s (IN), lined up.
 
Competing in its first year with the G-MAC, the Pioneers of Malone will go against future 2017 league member and crosstown rival Walsh along with Norther Michigan and Lake Superior State.
 
Reigning league tournament champ and NCAA qualifier Trevecca Nazarene, has drawn nationally-ranked No. 12 Lewis from the GLVC along with Quincy and Drury.
