G-MAC Volleyball Athlete of the Week (Sept. 28)

9.28.15

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Cedarville outside hitter Abby Shelton was named the fourth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.

Shelton posted strong offensive numbers in three matches as the G-MAC schedule officially got underway last week. The Yellow Jackets are on a quest to pursue their fourth consecutive league crown.

Shelton averaged over five kills per set as Cedarville (6-8, 2-0 G-MAC) toppled Urbana and then proceeded to beat league opponents Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins

She hit .281 in 10 sets and also averaged three digs per game while serving up a total of five aces. In two of the matches, she compiled a kills/digs double-double.

Her 26 kills in the four-set triumph against Alderson Broaddus represented a G-MAC record with a match in that duration. She officially eclipsed a 25-kill effort by Alex Leister (Ursuline) recorded against Indiana-Kokomo in the fall of 2012.

Shelton had already tied the four-set kill conference record earlier in the fall against Hillsdale with 24 on Sept. 12.

The junior Georgia product is now the G-MAC’s leader in kills per set (3.84).

Cedarville will put its four-match win streak and 5-0 home record on the line this week against Southern Indiana, Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene -- all to be played in the Callan Athletic Center.
