GREENWOOD, Ind. – Trevecca Nazarene junior outside hitter/middle blocker Katelyn Atkinson was named the second Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.
The Trojans played host to the annual Scott Jones Classic in Nashville over the weekend as Atkinson mirrored her stats in two key categories.
As TNU beat Union and Oakland City throughout the last week, the junior produced even averages of 3.57 kills and 3.57 digs per set in 14 total sets.
In addition, the Trojans (4-5 overall) battled opponents from the Sunshine State Conference (Embry-Riddle) and Great Lakes Valley Conference (Bellarmine).
Atkinson’s 20 kills nailed down against Oakland City was the second-highest total in a match this fall (24 – Abby Shelton, Cedarville vs. Hillsdale). She also hit .375 and had 15 digs as the Trojans won in four sets.
The junior had an 11 kill, 12-dig double-double against Bellarmine on Saturday to wrap up the tournament and had nine kills and 14 digs in her team’s effort against Embry-Riddle.
The early match of the week featured TNU beating Union in straight sets as Atkinson hit .318 and had 10 total kills.
The native of Hermitage, Tenn., currently ranks third in the G-MAC in kills per set and fourth in digs per set, respectively.
Trevecca Nazarene now starts a six-match road swing, heading to Cleveland tomorrow to face Lee University in more non-conference action.
