G-MAC Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week (Sept. 14)

9.14.15

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Davis & Elkins freshman forward Katrina Giantsopoulos was named the second Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.

Giantsopoulos keyed back-to-back conference wins for Davis & Elkins, which is currently tied with reigning G-MAC champion Ursuline at the top of the league standings at 2-0-0.

The Senators outscored Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene by a combined 8-2 score on the pitch as the Canadian rookie blasted three total goals.

Giantsopoulos broke open a scoreless contest against KWC in the 19th minute. Although it would turn out to be the only goal in the opening period, the D&E offense erupted for four scores in the second half.

Her second goal of the game came in the 68th minute to give the Senators a 4-0 cushion at the time.

The native from Markham, Ontario, put Davis & Elkins ahead of Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday with her fourth goal of the year in the 39th minute. It turned out to be the game winner as TNU’s attempted rally included a goal in the second half.

Davis & Elkins will wrap up a four-game season-opening homestand on Tuesday by hosting Lake Erie, a future 2017 G-MAC member.
