GREENWOOD, Ind. – Cedarville University was tabbed the early frontrunner as results for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll were released on Monday.
 
The G-MAC has yet to see a conference tournament champion other than the Yellow Jackets, who have accumulated 75 wins since the league’s inception in 2012.
 
Additionally, Cedarville has gone 30-3 (.910) in all G-MAC matches for the past three years.
 
Under the direction of head coach Doug Walters, Cedarville is a perfect 7-0 in the postseason. To add to the buzz, the conference also has a brand new automatic qualifier for the 2015 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship effective this year.
 
Competition for the new national postseason bid will be fierce in the G-MAC as coaches formulate their preseason practice plans and get their student-athletes ready for action on Sept. 3.
 
Cedarville received a total of 56 votes from the G-MAC’s coaches, including six of the eight possible first-place votes.
 
Ohio Valley University, last year’s G-MAC Championship runner-up, was picked second with 45 points. The Fighting Scots received one first-place vote along with Kentucky Wesleyan College, who trailed OVU by just two total points with 43 to settle at third.
 
Ursuline College (42) and Trevecca Nazarene University (36) were picked fourth and fifth, respectively. The Arrows are undergoing a new coaching transition with the introduction of Jayme Plummer in the offseason.
 
Also welcoming a new head coach in recent history is Davis & Elkins College, who announced Kylie Carrington as the new leader of the program.
 
Alderson Broaddus University (30), Davis & Elkins (21) and Salem International University (15), rounded out the preseason coaches poll.
 
The G-MAC is working with member institutions for an extensive preseason preview later this month. Interviews with the head coach and a student-athlete along with a written team capsule will be posted on G-MACSports.com prior to the regular season getting underway.
