GREENWOOD, Ind. – Cedarville University received the maximum number of first-place votes to emerge at the top of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll on Monday.
The Yellow Jackets received six first-place votes and 43 points overall to lead the preseason coaches poll. Alderson Broaddus University picked up one first-place vote and was tabbed second with 34 points.
Cedarville went 7-0-1 in the conference schedule while defending its home pitch successfully in the conference tournament in the semifinals and final.
The Yellow Jackets placed six on the all-conference team, including offensive/defensive players of the year in Connor Gilmour and Jarrett Kersten. Entering his third year, two-time G-MAC Coach of the Year Brett Faro has registered a near-perfect 13-1-2 conference record since 2013.
G-MAC Championship runner-up Davis & Elkins checked in at third with 33 points while transitioning a new coaching era with Dr. Greg Myers now at the helm.
Trevecca Nazarene University (28), Kentucky Wesleyan College (23) and Salem International University (22), all qualified for the postseason last fall and finished fourth, fifth and sixth, in the voting.
Ohio Valley University (13) is welcoming first-year head coach Luis Rincon to the fold as the Fighting Scots look to turn the corner.
The G-MAC will continue to fight for supremacy around the Midwest Region as a result of no automatic qualifiers awarded for the Division II Men's Soccer Championship.
The G-MAC is working with member institutions for an extensive preseason preview later this month. Interviews with the head coach and a student-athlete along with a written team capsule will be posted on G-MACSports.com prior to the regular season getting underway.
