GREENWOOD, Ind. – Another Great Midwest Athletic Conference institution has qualified for the coveted field of 64 in at-large form, this time the Trevecca Nazarene softball program heading to the NCAA Championship Regional.
The Trojans joined the Cedarville women’s basketball program to represent the G-MAC at the NCAA Championships while TNU’s Alexa Rippy is continuing to make her mark at the NCAA DII East Super Regional in women’s golf as an individual.
The No. 7 seed Trojans (38-8, 20-1 G-MAC) and three-time G-MAC softball tournament champs are ticketed for the second pod in the Midwest Region.
Their first-round date is set against second-seeded University of Indianapolis and regional host on Friday.
Navigating the same double-elimination style bracket format as the conference tournament, the Trojans and Greyhounds will battle at UIndy with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
On the other side of the bracket is the third-seeded Ashland opposing No. 6 Truman at 2:30 p.m. EST.
The other Midwest regional pod will be hosted by GLVC champion and top-seeded Missouri-St. Louis. The Tritons will be joined by Grand Valley State, Southern Indiana and Wayne State.
Led by G-MAC Coach of the Year Ben Tyree, G-MAC Player of the Year Lindsey Stephens, and G-MAC Pitcher of the Year Haley Fagan, TNU caught the attention of the national committee for their impressive regular season.
The Trojans ran through the G-MAC Championship bracket with a 4-0 record to win their third straight conference crown.
Both double-elimination Midwest Regionals will be played concurrently this weekend, with the winners facing off in a best-of-three showdown at the Midwest Super Regional May 15-16 for the right go to the NCAA D-II Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., May 21-25.
