MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – Enduring weather that mirrored the first day of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship at Four Bridges Country Club, Trevecca Nazarene was able successfully defend its title three years running as reigning conference champs.
With a 9 a.m. shotgun start, the women were in seven different groups beginning at different holes. First-round leader Alexa Rippy of TNU was joined by Ursuline’s Eadaoin Cronin and Victoria Nichols of Ohio Valley.
The winds were at their worst again reaching upwards to 60 mph and the temperature dropping to as low as 40 degrees. Conditions were not ideal for a second day in a row.
“I felt like I shot seven below (par),” Rippy said afterwards. “But I shot five over (par).”
Rippy’s second round score of 77 was better than her first day total of 81. Her combined score of 158 was best for the women’s medalist award and inclusive first-team all-conference selection.
Rippy led her team in winning the team championship for a third straight year with a 676 two-round total.
Joining Rippy on the all-conference team were teammates and respective G-MAC Championship medalists Kaylon King (164) and Mikayla Dodson (173). Cronin (175) and Chasey Rotondo of Urusline (177) rounded out the talented group.
TNU’s Marlee Stecker finished sixth overall as the Trojans counted four scores in the lineup with a cumulative total of 181.
Ursuline finished second in the team competition by posting a score of 725. Talia Trovato (186), Ashley Rideout (187) and Kennedy Fay (194) were the remaining Arrows competitors.
Amanda Sabourin led Ohio Valley finishing with 187 in the championship. The Fighting Scots finished third with a combined score of 786.
Julia Heser of Alderson Broaddus led her team with a final score of 184, while the Lady Battlers completed the two rounds with an 808. Kentucky Wesleyan’s Kaitlyn Pelletier and Summer Newsome competed as individuals.
