Cedarville Men Crowned G-MAC Outdoor Track & Field Champion

CEDARVILLE, Ohio
– On the strength of seven event titles, Cedarville retained bragging rights following Saturday’s Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
 
The Yellow Jackets finished with 228 points in the team standings while Alderson Broaddus enjoyed a strong day for runner-up status following 127 points accumulated.
 
Central State (108) placed third, Trevecca Nazarene (103) was close behind in fourth and Kentucky Wesleyan (34) rounded out the remaining scores.
 
The second G-MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships were conducted on Cedarville’s campus with picture-perfect sunny weather in the mid-70’s for the duration of the event.
 
Cedarville’s Jeff Bolender was voted as the G-MAC Coach of the Year by his peers, Central State’s Darin Gooch pronounced the G-MAC Freshman and Track Athlete of the Year while Jacob Goble of Alderson Broaddus cleaned up G-MAC Field Athlete of the Year for the outdoor campaign.
 
Gooch also earned freshman of the year honors during the G-MAC’s inaugural indoor event while Goble, just a freshman, was a dominating presence in the throwing cages all afternoon.
 
Cedarville had top placewinners in the pole vault with Aaron Sturgeon, high jump with Samuel Tvardzik and discus with Jordan Adams during the field events.
 
Yellow Jackets’ first-place efforts on the track included Daniel Michalski (3K steeplechase, Josiah Bernard (400-meter dash), Tim De Jong (800-meter run) and the 4x400-meter relay unit comprised of the previously mentioned trio and David Yoder.
 
Gooch captured the long jump crown, blazed to first as part of the 4x100-meter relay grouping, blazed to first in the 100-meter dash in 10.94 seconds and was third in the 200-meter dash.
 
The Marauders had help in the team totals with Romario McKenzie (200-meter dash) and Denzel Peters (110/400-meter hurdles) parlaying their blazing speed to first.
 
Goble steered the Battlers with a pair of G-MAC titles, conquering the hammer throw and shot put while coming in third in discus. AB’s Issac Silafau brought home the javelin title. 
 
Taylor Flemming (1,500-meter run) Logan Rodgers (5K), Ben Moroney (10K) made their presence felt for Trevecca Nazarene in distance events with wins while Christopher Elliott, a guard on the men’s basketball team, won the triple jump and was second in the high jump.
