INDIANAPOLIS – The 2014-15 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball season has come to a close with Cedarville University its first regular season crown. The Women’s Basketball Tournament will begin on Thursday in Cedarville, Ohio and as the teams prepare, the conference office has released the 2014-15 All-Conference Teams and individual awards winners.
The coaches submitted nominations and selected the five-member First and Second All-Conference teams, and identified a six-member All-Freshman squad. In addition to the All-Conference teams, the coaches named a Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, and a Player of the Year.
Great Midwest Athletic Conference: Women’s Coach of the Year
KIRK MARTIN - Cedarville University
Coach of the Year honors go to the top seeded Lady Jackets Coach, who have put together an impressive season under Kirk Martin, who returned his team to 20-plus wins after an 18 win season last year. Martin has now won 20 or more games in 12 of his 14 seasons at Cedarville. Thinking it would be difficult to improve upon his 13-3 record in conference last season, Martin and Lady Jackets secured the top overall seed, going 15-1 this season.
Following the new year holiday, Cedarville started 2015 with an 11-game win streak before dropping its only conference game, which came on the road to Trevecca. Cedarville then finished the season winning its final five contests. The Lady Jackets went a perfect 13-0 at home this season and are winners of their last 18 games at home, dating back to January 16, 2014.
