GREENWOOD, Ind. - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has named its first Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week of the 2015 season, selecting Clay Watson and Carsyn Koch of Cedarville University as the Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Clay Watson has been named the men’s season’s first Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Emory Invitational.
 
Watson took second place in the 5,000 meter race, helping his team finish third in a field of 28 schools. His time of 14:51.28 is the best so far this season in conference. He finished over eight seconds faster than his teammate Ben Tuttle in the same field, and over 52 seconds faster than the next best time posted this early in the season.  
 
Watson will look to continue to improve on his time over the next few weeks, looking to qualify for the NCAA DII Championships. The provisional standard is 14:37.45.

Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week

Carsyn Koch has been named the Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, earning the conference first outdoor honor of the season, coming at the Emory Invitational.
 
Koch, who was the G-MAC Indoor Track and Field champion in the 800m race and the high jump, began the outdoor portion of the season with a first place finish in the 800m race at the Emory Invitational. Her time of 2:09.49 was just 0.3 seconds off the Cedarville record, set way back in 1986.
 
With the win and the impressive time, Koch hit the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time standard in her first attempt. She is just 1.49 seconds off the Automatic qualifying time of 2:08.00.
 
Her weekend wasn’t done after the 800, she teamed up in the relays to help Cedarville capture a first place finish in the 4x800. Their time of 9:04.08 broke a school record by an impressive 7.38 seconds. She also ran in the 4x400 relay, as the team finished second.
