GREENWOOD, Ind. – With their respective programs engaged in fierce spring competition, Davis & Elkins hurler Alexandra Lapallo and Cedarville outfielder Carlyn Hanzel reeled in Great Midwest Athletic Conference softball honors on Monday.
Lapallo tossed a complete game shutout in the season opener for the Senators while Hanzel has enjoyed a fine start at the plate that includes a .500 batting average through three games already.

Lapallo dazzled for Davis & Elkins to get the spring started on a high note in Tennessee. The rookie blanked Lees-McRae, tossing a three-hitter with a pair of strikeouts in her first start at the collegiate level.
Lapallo made at least one appearance in the circle for the Senators for all three games this past week, including a start and relief entry vs. Newberry.
Most recently, she fired another complete-game shutout to get the new week started vs. St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

Hanzel homered and sported a 5-for-10 line at the plate as the Yellow Jackets tangled with Felician, Mary and Saginaw Valley State, in Clermont, Fla.
Against Mary, Hanzel singled three times and scored twice as Cedarville collected its first win of the season deep into extra innings.
On Sunday in the effort against Saginaw Valley State, she drilled a home run as part of a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored.
