GREENWOOD, Ind. – Cedarville’s senior proficient marksman guard Marcus Reineke earned the final selection of the regular season for Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week status.
Reineke and the Yellow Jackets won five of their last six games to head into the conference tournament with plenty of momentum as the No. 4 seed.
Cedarville ventured to Ohio Valley and nearby Central State for both league wins this past week as the Yellow Jackets finished 13-15 overall and 9-5 in the conference schedule.
This is the second time in the 2014-15 season that Reineke has been named the G-MAC Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week.
In the two games, Reineke averaged 21.5 points, five rebounds and shot over 50 percent from the field again at a 16-for-31 rate. Ten of his 16 field goals made were dialed up from long distance.
In a matchup of the G-MAC’s two leading scorers between Reineke and OVU’s Darryl Walker, Reineke got the better end of the entertaining matchup, exploiting the Fighting Scots’ defense for 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting.
He pulled in four rebounds and handed out a pair of assists in 29 minutes of court time.
In Wilberforce at Central State, Reineke sank six triples as part of his 22 points. He was a crisp 6-of-9 from deep and was 8-of-16 on all shots from the floor. He crashed the glass for six rebounds and pocketed a steal.
Reineke concluded the regular season as the G-MAC’s second-leading scorer at 18.6 points per game in 28 total contests. He was the league’s top free throw shooter, knocking down a staggering 91.8 percent of his attempts (90-of-98).
He shot nearly 48 percent from the floor to rank 11th in the league and wrapped up third in the G-MAC in three-point percentage.
